"Pa-kama" is the Thai word for a cotton cloth wrap worn casually by men. Similar to a sarong, this multi-purpose cloth has been used for centuries in villages throughout SE Asia, with each country and locality developing distinct colors and patterns to reflect local tastes and culture. In Thailand, the Pa-kama is used as bathing wrap, as a head wrap to protect from heat and sun exposure while working the fields, as a belt, and even tied into a bag slung across the shoulder to carry personal items. The Pa-kama shown below can be used as such, or as a throw, or cut into pillow covers, a shirt or a blouse. Each piece is hand woven; each pattern and color combination is often unique among villages in Thailand.
